FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have a question that isn't here? Ask us when you request your estimate.

Are you a licensed contractor in NYC?

Yes. Work is performed under NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Home Improvement Contractor License #2107844, held by Build Iconic Inc. You can verify it on the city's license lookup.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. The consultation and written estimate are free, with no obligation to hire us.

Do you work in co-ops and condos?

Yes. We work with building management and help you through the alteration agreement and the documents your building asks for before work begins.

Do I need a permit for my renovation?

It depends on the scope. Cosmetic work often doesn't, while moving plumbing, gas lines or walls usually does. We'll tell you during the estimate and coordinate permits when they're required.

How long does a kitchen or bathroom remodel take?

It depends on the size, materials and building rules. Your written estimate includes a project schedule, so you'll know the timeline before we start.

Is my building old enough to have lead paint?

If it was built before 1978, it may. We're an EPA RRP lead-safe certified firm and follow lead-safe work practices on older homes.

Can you add smart home features during a renovation?

Yes, and a renovation is the best time to do it. Running wiring while the walls are open costs far less than retrofitting later. We're Loxone certified installers.

Which areas do you serve?

Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. If you're just outside these areas, ask us anyway.
